At this phase of life, I've done a lot of thinking about friendship, love, and stuff. It's like there's nothing I can rely on but my job and family. Friends failed me and love is something impossible for now. All the guys I like are taken and friends left me. Sometimes it feels like I'm all alone while the world is getting more crazy.
It kinda hit me last night when I had a chat with my old best friends. One of them is getting married and she wanted us to wear a dress code--but time has passed from when we were excited about dress codes. We now have separated lives of our own. We don't longer talk with each other and we simply have different dresses we want to wear for the party.
Things changed, people changed, even best friends changed. I am crying inside for the changes but there's nothing I can do to put it back the same way. Things must change eventually because people grow up inside. We don't walk on the same place--we must go forward. So when another best friend I have changed recently, I just have to let her go.
I think there's no such thing that you can be upset to a person just because he asks things more than twice for the same case and just because he incidentally told a friend about your plan tonight. There should be something greater behind that, to stop one from being a friend to another. And when people don't feel like they're talking to me no more, I can do nothing but keep in silence.
A friend wrote this on his facebook profile:
Friends are like tattoos, some are real & permanent and some are fake & temporary... I don't need to do everything just to be happy.... I just need to take care of the people who are making me happy... Friendship isn't about how long I've known someone, its about who came into my life and never left by my side... }:/
And I thought, if a friend doesn't want to be near me anymore, it's not all my loss anyway. I still got much love to be given to people who need it more, like my family and other people who aren't my friends yet. We can always have new friends anywhere and just make the best of it. Life has taught me that the persons you want the most in life isn't always the one that'll stick around for a long time. That's how you appreciate the people you care less about before.
I had a conversation with my sister the other day. We discussed about how life being much harder since dad had passed away. Our family is broken, our dearest people betrayed on us and life is just getting bitter. But we are still glad because we've tasted the sweetness of life at the beginning of our lives so that we can still taste the sweets in every bitterness. We try to think positive in every incident in our lives, thank God for that.
Still, I am feeling rather lonely now. It's like being a single fighter tho I still got my siblings, mom and aunts around me to get thru the days. Good friends are becoming so rare to find and better ones are hard to met with these days. At the end of the day, it's just the business between you and God--friends and love are the bonuses He's giving us and we don't get bonus all the time.
For me now, it's like a very individual life--tho I'm so much a caring person inside. I was always surrounded by friends everywhere I went, and now I'm surrounded by work loads and the stress of it. Things had really changed now and we just got to play the game. I believe things will get better anyway. Sorrows will be lifted up and sun will shine back on me. Until then, all I got to do is to keep being positive, no matter what.
[Tjikini - Sedap Rasa Segala]
I just got back from Tjikini, a brand new restaurant at Jl. Cikini Raya no. 17. This place belongs to my ex-editor in chief back in the Idea Magazine from Kompas Gramedia Group. I brought along my aunt and their friends with me to try and we were very satisfied by its food.
They just opened last Aug 16 and serves only several Indonesian dish such as Sayur Lodehawe, Pindang Iga, Soto Ayam, Nasi Goreng Terasi. The drinks are pretty much very simple like téh seréh and kopi tubruk. You'd just love them all for they taste so good!
Don't underestimate the simple decoration here--the concept will grow from here--but the food here, tho are just simple 'home food' but are extraordinarily delicious. They have both indoor and outdoor area so it's okay if you're smoking. If you really love colonial building with thick Indonesian flavor, don't miss this place, seriously! ;)
Okay, blame me for spending too much time on Facebook, but I just got new games to play on. Better points are, that they're already famous stuff so playing the games are just like a reunion. Sweet!
[The Smurfs & Co.]
I grew up reading to this Peyo
's little blue people living in the forest with evil Gargamel and his cat trying to find their village to make soup out of them. Sure, playing the game should be as fun as reading to the comic, but this game is just a so-so. Cool game for kids, but not enough for teenagers and up. It's just nice to meet with Papa Smurf and his smurfs again after so long :)
[The Sims Social]
Actually, I prefer the usual The Sims on PC for it has more of building and decorating tools and details--and the neighbors too, of course. But this one got cuter avatar, smoother details and cuter characters. As its name being social, it concentrates more on the sims' social life than its house. This is a very nice reunion for me, because I nearly got no time to play the usual ones (I got The Sims 2 installed on my Mac). One thing I don't like from this game: it's totally addicting!
[CSI: Crime City]
You can't blame me to be addicted to this one. I am a huge fan of the TV series and now that we don't have the cable service, I am so happy to find the game on FB. It's just that I'd never put more attention to who specialized in what on the series, and now that I'm playing this I became more aware of each expertise. I really love Catherine's character, btw. And surely looking forward for CSI: Miami's game to be available. Lol.
Since Hollywood movies were banned for few months in Indonesia and we don't have the cables here in my aunt's house, I hid myself between DVDs whenever I'm in stress. Actually, it's almost every night that I'm stressed out. Lucky there are these DVDs, so my mood came back normally for the next day's long hours at work. Here are some of what I watched:
The Other Woman
is taken from "Love and Other Impossible Pursuits
" by Ayelet Waldman, a drama about life perspective of a second wife about what comes after love: marriage with a divorced guy and the acceptance of her step son while she's still bearing with her own daughter's death. Portman delivers the message so well here, another brilliant work of hers to watch. This is a bit heavy drama, don't watch this when you're dealing with heavy problems yourself (but then again, perhaps you can just take the lessons from here).
The Other Woman
[my most favorite!]
Something Borrowed
(from Emily Giffin's novel
with same title) tells a story of Rachel (Ginnifer Goodwin) who loves Dex (Colin Egglesfield) secretly, who is engaged to Darcy (Kate Hudson) which is happen to be Rachel's best friend. This is a very sweet drama comedy about love and friendship and everything in between. Lovely!
Swinging with the Finkels is a story about bored married couple who are willing to do anything to save their marriage, including to swing. This is a cute movie, with lovely wardrobe of Mandy Moore's, but I don't really feel the connection between Moore and Freeman here. The guy seems too old for her, don't you think?
A very light drama comedy made by telenovela makers, with nice story and nice actors, but awful director... it's just so telenovela-ish. And Camilla Belle's skin was so yellow (perhaps to get a little Mexican tan there). This is an OK movie to kill some time, but not to be watched in the movie theaters. Lol.
This is mostly a story about the children fable Little Red Riding Hood
, only it's modified into a teenager Valerie (Amanda Seyfried) with her love life with the cool Peter (Shiloh Fernandez) while the sweet Henry is also in love with her. A very pretty movie indeed, and Fernandez caught my attention most of the time *chuckles.
Dylan Dog
is only for Brandon Routh's fans. Okay, so the story is not a typical vampire vs werewolf, but not really that outstanding. Only Routh is looking so good there (tho Ester said his shoulders are too big) which made the movie is enjoyable for girls. I dunno about boys wathching this tho.
Source Code is the technology made by Dr. Rutledge which became useful for an event where Captain Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) was sent over and over again for 8 minutes to gain as many information as he could. This is a great sci-fi with a little romance in it!
I just can't love Limitless
less. The story was about Eddie Morra, a writer who never finished his book but suddenly could finish it in just 4 days. Cooper played so nice here, turning from a loser into a genius, with the help of NZT pills that help one to access all of one's brain, instead of using just 20% of it in normal human capacity. Sure, everything in life has its own price.
I am back on normal Jakarta's daily pace now, working my ass 9 to 5 everyday. As yesterday my sister and I failed on trying tennis (we should be a member to use the tennis court at night time) so I decided to check on my project site on Gandaria City. It was 9.30 p.m. already when we got there (it was so sweet that my lil sis offered to accompany me) and we decided to watch a movie.
Transformers: Dark of the Moon
Overall, the movie satisfied me. Perhaps because this was my first box office movie in theatre after months of the Hollywood movie case in Indonesia. Perhaps because it was on 3D that the pictures amused me more. Perhaps it's simply because it's that good. But mostly, because I really needed some adrenaline after all the stress. Lol.

[black Lumix FH5]
[fits perfectly to our never-used Kathmandu camera pod from Ka Olin years ago]
Finally, after almost two years camera-less, I bought a new digicam as my old Kodak M873 was broken and relied only on the Blackberry's limited camera to everything. After doing a little research between Canon and Olympus, I decided to buy this Panasonic Lumix FH5, as it was said as the best result for interior and in the dark. The Leica lens and its lightweight design had helped me a lot to decide. I actually wanted the GF2 but for now, it's ok to have the pocket size one... I hope the images on my blog posts will be much better with it. Thank God :)
[the crossroad near Vredeburg and Keraton]
I gathered some tips here during my stay in the city for you, if you ever wanna go to the city thick with culture and history.
- Riding on Becak. You have to know standard price for becak, because they usually mark up 3-5x higher for tourists. Ask locals to find out about normal price before asking the becak driver to get you somewhere.
- Shopping in Malioboro. You also need to know the normal price for anything here for they don't give fix prices. Better check out the prices in the shop so you'll know how low you can bargain for the stuff on the street. Check out Beringharjo market for even cheaper stuff.
- Getting a Taxi. Not too many empty taxis are there on the streets, especially the less-trafficked roads. You will need to have 2-3 driver contact numbers, whether it's from the company or personal. If possible, do the bargaining on the phone because they usually avoid to use the argo meters.
I guess that's all. All and all you just need to know about normal price, so you know how much you can bargain for all, from shopping stuff to transportation ride. It's the art of bargaining after all. Lol. And collect as many local's contacts as possible to ease everything else in between. Now, happy holidays (as the Lebaran is coming near), fellas !

I met Maartje and Anna last night at Grand Indonesia and on the way home I was thinking while I was driving, and got a rough conclusion about guys around me. Perhaps around you, too. Here's what I got:
1. The Fools
This is the type of guys who use cheap tricks, cheesy lines and lame excuses to get the girls. They thought (and act) as if they were the coolest, most handsome guys in the world, while they actually look like a clown or just a silly guy around. Actually they can be fun and funny, but the way they act and speak as if they're the best thing makes us sick. This kind of guys will hang around less than two-three (sometimes just one) week if we know how to be firm with them.
2. The Kinds
This is when a guy is kind and has special place in our heart but too kind to be our mate. This kind of guys are always nice, come handy, and always flatter us with true praises. But somehow they are not "good" enough to be our boyfriend, tho they worship us as the greatest or smartest or cutest or sexiest or kindest girl on earth. Too bad, we don't have any intention to go on further because they aren't what we're looking for for a future husband.
3. The Friends
This is the boys who no matter what will always be a friend. Or that you think as a friend (even tho if they do have feelings for you). They are fun, spontaneous, good listener, agree (or disagree) with your thoughts, right you when you're wrong, respect you as a fine woman, but don't dare (or simply not willing) to go further on. They will always be there for us, even tho they have girlfriends, and will fight for our honor. We feel safe with them as if we are their sister.
4. The Dreams
This exists--as what it's named--just in our imagination. This is classified as unreachable, untouchable guys, and when they actually do, it usually just a fake (perhaps he has certain motive) and normally don't last. They could be the most handsome, true geniuses, coolest guys you've ever known about but better be without. It's like they think of us as "The Kinds" for them: we may have a special place in their hearts, but still not good enough to be with.
I guess these four are the main categories I can classify all the boys around me. And when I count them all, no.2 and no.3 have the most members in it because I'm such a friend keeper. Lol. This is just my slight thought, and I never really make any survey or research about it, this is just my personal conclusion. But this certainly works for me ;)
By the way, to see the four points above, I would definitely get no guys at all for it's certainly a no-no for guys no.1, and I avoid (also hard for me) to fall for guys no.2 and no.3, and the no.4 is really a useless. Now you all should be agree with me about how hard it is to find a decent bachelor around. ROFL.
