Another Victoria's Secrets

I had this special opportunity to come to Venus tiles' Artil(e)ogia exhibition in Plaza Indonesia (3rd floor, Booth M119) last Thursday. I came at 10 a.m. by the invitation, but apparently the booth was still quiet. I was like the first guest there, lol.


So I wandered alone thru the nine booths which are brought together by the theme of "Faces" and used Avant Garde tiles collection from Venus but each was designed by different artists by Artura. The booths were talking about journey of faces in life: from nothing, being baby-faced, two-faced, thousand faced, etc. These are really something.













I met Sherleen, the PR from Venus, and she got me introduced to William, the marketing manager there, and he brought me to Philip and Graham who were the artists who collaborated with Venus on making the special Avant Garde handmade collection.

I don't know if it's just me being on my age or people--especially in Indonesia--are being more and more expressive about their fidgety. Perhaps since around 2004, Indonesian music industry are brought into a more blue (and patheticly sad) lyrics and "alay" harmony (which refers to Malayan music), I think more people are being restive.

Few days ago, one of my colleagues was feeling blue (which we don't know why and she wasn't telling) but her behaviour really annoyed us. It isn't that one couldn't be fitful or anything, but I think there are rules in our social environment: either you show your fidgety and let people help you about it, or don't show anything at all if you don't want people to intervene. If you want to keep it by yourself, keep your emotions away from your face.

Perhaps it's a little bit too harsh to say (my last sentence above) but on being social, you need to adapt to your surroundings. People don't have to know about your deepest feeling if you don't want to talk about it. People don't want to know about the details of your poorly dramatic life unless you are open to discuss it.

But then again, maybe it's just me who are now being too skeptical for such drama thingy for I've had enough stuff with heart involved that I feel disturbed when I see people being too worried about romance. I don't think that it's necessary to show too much feeling on the surface, especially when you have many audiences around.

I am an expressive person myself, too, but I keep it just when I am around close friends and family. When I am surrounded by people I know less about, I just show the way I am but not my deepest feelings. I keep my feelings just for me (or by my poems) but not for too much exposure. But maybe it's just me who is never being too open about my feelings by nature.

Well I think people just need to hold their feelings than spreading the fitful around. It's just making the guys more like a crybaby nowadays and make it harder for the girls to find such a gentlemen they need in a (future) family. Funny how women are more logical and stronger now and men are more fragile these days...

Today I started my special day by attending a press conference of Artil(e)ogia by Venus Tiles in Plaza Indonesia and got introduced to William for the company's marketing manager and also to Philippe & Graham, duo tile designers who collaborated with Venus on making their latest Avant Garde special collection.


Went back to office by noon, my colleagues had prepared a birthday bread, gift and greeting card for me on my desk and simply perfected my day. I got busy for the next few hours, then at around 4 p.m. we were summoned for a meeting with website team from Singapore. It took 2 hours or so, and after that, we had dinner at usual place.

Once more, my colleagues had prepared all and surprised me by holding the "cake" and made me blow the second candle (the first one was prepared by my siblings this morning when I was just woke up, held inside a Starbucks cheese bagel and accompanied by a bottle of vodka mix, which was some breakfast menu! Lol.) It was really nice of them, truly!


After that, Nimas, Rachelle, Herdi and I went to Plaza Indonesia (again) and went to Immigrant to watch Mike's Apartment's performance. It was a really nice place--the Immigrant--and the music was just perfect to end my day. I drove my fellas home and arrived home by 11.30. What a nice day today, thank God for that, and special thanks to my friends as following:

Introducing a new blog, Sekawan Sehari, which is posting photos of their friends. The tag line, "a friend a day keeps enemies away" just fit in the blog concept. Follow their twitter too.

Welcoming a new store, Majju, as one of limited designers who bring up batik as their main theme. The store is located in Kemang and you have to race to grab their limited collection (max. 10 pcs per design). This is a new way to keep Indonesian heritage, so we must have at least one of their pieces to wear on Fridays, the Batik Day. Have a nice shopping here, friends :)

I think Catherine will be a great first lady someday, sitting at Lady Di's position once, many years ago. Following the massive earthquake (8.9 Richter scale) and tsunami in Japan (11 Mar '11), prayers are sent from all around the world. Here is an image of students from Ahmedabad, in western Indian, holding candles and showing their love for Japan. This photo had touched my heart so deep, how pure these kids can say their prayers and show their sympathy for people in other country they hadn't even met. Is this kind of love still exist among us--as adults--nowadays? This is another reflection we must concern about.
Let's #prayforJapan and for all the humankind.

For the past three days, I've been in IFFINA expo in JIExpo Kemayoran. My magazine has a boothstand there and I was helping the marketing team taking care of it. IFFINA, stands for International Furniture & Craft Fair Indonesia, is held twice a year for international trader to purchase furniture and craft in Indonesia, so the shipping stuff will be their business, not Indonesian furniture producers.

I really had a great time wandering around seeing innovative and high qualified furniture they showed there and meeting so many people (mostly traders) came from all around the world. This is like the best (furniture) expo (in Indonesia) I've ever been in and I'm definitely gonna come in their next expo on 14-17 September, still in this year.

I just found a new local band, an accoustic duo of Felix Andre (lead vocal and rhythm guitar) and Corry Antang (lead guitar and backing vocal) from Bandung, this d'Ave covers some song into reggae and in accoustic version. Check their calming 'Never To Be Forgotten Moment' here. They are quite easy listening and is in indie stream--simply my kind of music.

I was supposed to go to church yesterday for Ash Wednesday, but I skipped mass (due to traffic jam and limited time to reach church in Jakarta after work traffic) and went to fX instead. There, I met Cheryl, Mario and beloved Kireina who had been in Germany for the last two years now.

We had dinner at Ta Wan, then after 2-3 hours of catching up stories, we headed to Plaza Semanggi for karaoke. We queued in Inul Vista and had fun there for an hour of singing. By the time we separated, it was after 11 p.m. and I headed home soon.

It was really nice to see these cousins gathered together. They are at the same age, about 4 years younger than me, and are all nice personalities. We get along well, especially because I befriends with Cheryl at first time. It's kinda funny to see who I befriends with lately, because mostly are younger than me. But it's okay, it keeps me young at heart somehow, lol.

Thank God, for keeping my old friends and adding new friends for me :)

One thing I love about March coming is that my birthday follows. So for my 27th birthday, I am craving for these (and wish that at least one of them will come true):

1. Pair of High Heel Military Boots


... the one I want was from Pull & Bear, but apparently they aren't nice to walk with, so I haven't found a better pair yet.

2. Swimsuit


... because my old one is getting worn off. I need a new one soon.

3. Pair of nerdy glasses


... because people say I look better with those on although my eyes are perfectly normal. My client said I have tired eyes and the glasses helped me look younger. Lol.

4. White Lumix GF2


... just for a better photography need in a compact package, although I want a Polaroid as well.

5. iPad


... for better presentation to clients and my mobile writing need.

6. Car


... any type would do, as long as it's AC-ed because I'm getting too tired going here and there by bus in Jakarta. I'm too mobile!

7. Dinner with my girls


... for they are the most important people in my life now beside my family and it is always the most important thing for birthdays to me: spend it with the most special people.

8. Two of my projects to get deals :)


... because I really need the money. Lol. Well, this is my passion, too, you know. This is why I took college and I need them to be done to add up my portfolio and to develop my company.

I hope they all can come true this month, although no. 6 is a little too high an expectation, but one can dream as high, can't she? Please, God, to make them all come true :)

Gosh, it's March already! It's the 4th now and I had been busy since the beginning of my most favorite month. I guess there will be no more after-work-hang-outs from now on, since I aim for succession this year. I hope I can concentrate more on the productive stuff rather than playing around (tho networking is as important somehow). I wish you all happiness and pots of luck in this month of Leprechauns, especially later on St. Patrick's (on 17th)!! :)

Oh dear, I don't know why but I can feel myself being such a grunting person lately. Especially at the office where I complain like all the time, and maybe in twitter where I litter way too much. I don't know when or how I am becoming where I am now, but I think my recent past had a lot to do about this.

The other night, I had a short conversation with Iyay and we discussed about half-breeds like I am, you know, those kids whose parents came from different races/nationality, especially us Asian mixed with Caucasian. I thought it was just me who got troubled growing up.

I, having three different bloods running through my veins--English, Bantenese and a bit Chinese--had never felt belonged to any circle until I figured out the way to love myself the way I am and stopped trying to fit in. Ever since, I tried to stand out and I made it here, thankfully.

Not every half-breeds is as lucky as I am, having found her own spot in the world and living it to the max. Most of my kind are lost and I just knew it from Iyay that there are other people who are like me. I thought it only happened in my Tunggono family (mostly being half-breeds with Javanese or Chinese).

This fact calmed me down a little, knowing that I'm not all alone. But then I'm concerned about "my kind", about dealing with circumstances that are mostly contrary to what inside our hearts and minds. I found that it was horrible to be in my shoes, and bet it can be harder on others, thanks to my wise parents.

I think this post has no essence at all, I was just wanna say stuff for now I don't have no diary book at all. I don't have any conclusion nor advice for the matters, for my grunting and me being a problematic half breed. I just wanna thank God for leading me get thru it all and keep alive. Thank God :)

Today the HardWare Magazine (HWM) gave me a good news. I was chosen to try the new BlackBerry Pearl 9105 for a month and have to review it in Facebook (yeay!). I received the brand new black-and-red gradation handheld from the HWM crew and gonna start exploring now. Wish me luck to own this at the end of the month! :)
